That’s Big Boi there on the left. This Outkast photo was just too delicious and juicy for me not to put up. I can’t stop staring at it. Anyways, Big Boi (aka “Daddy Fat Sacks”, “General Patton”, “Sir Lucious L. Leftfoot”, “Billy Ocean”, “Hot Tub Tony” and “Francis the Savannah Chitlin’ Pimp”) is getting ready to drop his solo album Sir Luscious Leftfoot… Son of Chico Dusty. ‘Royal Flush’ is the first single. Big Boi and Andre need to put out an Outkast record soon and be on the same tracks. Period. Their last double album Speakerboxxx/The Love Below was just garbage. Outkast, one of the top 3 Southern rap groups of all time, up there with Geto Boys and m*thafuckin’ UGK of course.
[Stream]:Big Boi “Royal Flush” feat. Andre 3000 and RaekwonWindows | Real [MP3]:Outkast “Club Donkey Ass (Interlude)” Best rap skit ever from the classic Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik. “Give me some head…I’m just f*ckin’ with you baby, I’m just f*ckin’ with you…”
It took your momma nine months to make it
But it only took a n*gga thirty minutes to take it
Cut that kronk clean up I did, but I did so not safely
Don’t want no AIDS, *clapping* no claps, or no rabies
Tilly and the Wall, those crazy tap dancing kids who sing about making out and getting f*cked up are back (though they’re not that young anymore). The Omaha, Nebraskans are set to release their third full-length O June 17th on Team Love records.
I still think “Rainbows in the Dark” is a banger. Every time I see them its been a festive affair, they just bring the fun factor. Though seeing Tilly’s SXSW showcase was the lowest point for me in March down in Austin. I just remember being so wasted and exhausted that I was going to pass out in the back. Then feeling pissed that I wasn’t able to enjoy Tilly’s show. Then drinking bottles and bottles of water and then trekking to some party three in the morning… Tangent
I’ve been obsessing over my latest web discovery, the vintage photo site Square America. Its worth wasting a couple days of your job hours, I still haven’t been able to go through it all. The curator describes it as a “site dedicated to preserving and displaying vintage snapshots from the first 3/4s of the 20th Century”. Basically like Found Magazine but for photos only. You’re looking at a visual American history and human dynamics with each other. There’s some old school gems on there, like the one above taken from The Party set. That set covers all the bases of fun: “Almost 50 photos from one late 60s/early 70s biracial, bisexual, bacchanal.” It makes you wonder if Bronques‘ grandfather took them back in the day.
The photos themselves are fascinating and leave me with a chuckle but it makes you think something kind of sad. If photos are for a memory or moment, why do these make us feel relegated to being nameless faces that people forget once we’re gone? If we’re lucky our photo may just be found by someone in the trash, at a flea market or on Ebay one day. The digital age makes it even worse when we’re one hard drive crash away from losing everything.
Ladytron seem to be reaching darker and darker territory as they following up the Witching Hour after 3 years. The new one is out on June 3rd, titled Velocifero or “bringer of speed”. Its produced by the band and surprisingly also with Vicarious Bliss (Ed Banger Records) plus Alessandro Cortini (Nine Inch Nails). I can tell you I’m not feeling the first single “Black Cat” as Mira Aroyo chugs along in her native Bulgarian. Yeah its a snoozefest, let’s hope the rest of the album doesn’t sound like it. Give me some Light & Magic!
At this point I’m more excited that awesome art collective Assume Vivid Astro Focus worked on the cover for Ladytron’s new album.

Guilt can be a Bitch. I understand it can make people act in strange and different ways. I forgive them. Sure they can call me an ‘asshole’ and be mad at me. Maybe it was for telling them that she died, or maybe it was for some other reason. But they’re the sort of people that would probably call me that anyway if they found out that I didn’t tell them the news. I guess it would be my mistake either way. Remember, I was the only one that adopted and took care of her when they decided their time with her would be done. Funny they always accepted news about her. And I’m sure they still loved her. This monster can feel sadness too. I apologize for telling them that she died, I can be such an ‘asshole’ sometimes. Maybe its best for all of us to sweep it under the rug that she ever existed. Anyways, ignore all this. Thats fine.

The first thing I did after listening to a mastered copy of Crystal Castles new self-titled album was delete all of their bootleg and demo recordings off my computer. Don’t worry, I’m still a big fan of their work, that’s just how complete their new sixteen song album is. 1 | 2 If you haven’t had the chance to give the new album a listen, you might be surprise like I was that it isn’t a total rehash of the songs that have been circulating around the web the last couple of years. At times the original demos could come off as abrasive, unstructured noise with annoying video game blips for the new listener. The mastered copy of the album has added balanced bass and noise levels plus contributed to clearer vocals that may have never been there before.
CC have become the king/queen and darlings of the whole DIY Myspace electro-experimental-thrash-8-bit movement thats become all too familiar in music these days. Originally known for a Klaxons remix, they’ve gone on to remix others from Bloc Party to Uffie to The Whip. One thing one finds out quickly after giving the Self-Titled a listen is that they actually have pop sensibilities.
If you don’t think so, check out the smooth sounding new bridge on ‘Air War’. They may just not come across as being electro-pop because vocals are at times so distorted and filtered. CC just seem to have a knack for playing dissonant melodies over major chords which leave the listener in limbo though I’m not sure whether or not they do this on purpose. But it works for them on popular songs like ‘Untrust Us’ and ‘Knights’. ‘Black Panther’ sounds like something I imagine being played at some dance club on the Jersey shore during the Summer where you’d get smashed in the head with a beer bottle by some meathead named Tony. All they need to do is drop in a repeating chorus like “better off alone” or “do you miss me?” and their act is moved from the basement to the bottle-service crowd. The same can be said for ‘Courtship Dating’. On ‘Vanished’, instrumentalist Ethan Fawn gets in on the act and does lead vocals. Alice Glass ends up with Suburban Lawns-esque and beach bunny vocals on the tunes ‘Good Times’ and ‘Courtship Dating’. Most surprising is the last song where CC create what seems to be perfect goth/shoe-gaze ballad with just guitar strumming. Like I said, this is a complete record and not just a dance album. Album out now on Last Gang Records.
Crystal Castles finally play our longley anticipated FRICTION party on March 26th with HEALTH, Team Robespierre and Apache Beat . Plus an appearance at Studio B in Brooklyn the night before.
