I saw something similar to this using CD artwork to create collages, but not nearly as much fun! The Prince one might be my fav for its ridiculousness, but it’s borderline NSFW. Besides, you can’t go wrong with Tiffany.

Big Stereo has a nice weekly mixtape series and the most recent one features an Italo theme. I love the one from Tronik Youth with its 80′s Eurobeats. It will provide the perfect mood for your Holiday travels and prevent you from getting the deer-in-headlights-zombie-mode while on your journey. Be safe out there!

I don’t know about you, but I listen to podcasts ALOT. In addition to NPR’s This American Life, I love KEXPs series of podcasts, including Music That Matters (MTM), Song of the Day, and Live Performances. Being a subscriber to MTM, I get to sample the flavors of different DJ’s musical tastes, like that of our good friend John Richards. Check out Vol. 74 for some of his favorite tunes from the morning show.
The most recent podcast by DJ Chilly might be the best of the year. Well, it is a summary of the best hip-hop of the year and the tracklisting is impressive, an eclectic mix of hip-hop and underground rap that plays more like a mix-tape than a radio broadcast. Download the mp3, upload the podcast, or just stream from the site. They have always been a leader in bringing music to the fans and making it so accessible. Keep it up KEXP!

Wired has a nice article with dialog between David Byrne and Thom Yorke and their opinions on the music industry, discussing the approach and success of In Rainbows.
In the first month, about a million fans downloaded In Rainbows. Roughly 40 percent of them paid for it, at an average of $6 each. Yorke says, “In terms of digital income, we’ve made more money out of this record than out of all the other Radiohead albums put together, forever — in terms of anything on the Net.”

As a followup to my Holiday gift post, here is a nice list of fairly inexpensive design gifts. Some of it quite ridiculous, some of it quite useful; like the reusable bags from baggu.

OK, I’ll admit this song is a Chromeo rip-off, but the execution of the late 70s / early 80s theme is too good to deny. Directed by Melina, the video pays homage to Snoop’s idols like Rick James and Prince. Snoop keeps it real at the end of the song by bringing back his signature rap.
Speaking of Chromeo, they just added a second show at the Bowery after the first sold out. Get tics here.
