Ever since giving These New Puritans on Angular Records a listen, I’ve been scouring the internet sale bins for their back catalog. TNP hail from Southend which 40 miles east of London, from the same scene as the Horrors. I don’t care much for that other band but I think TNP have a pretty refreshing sound. They seem to have a knack for building tension through their angular sound. I was surprised to read that they are massively influenced by the Wu Tang Clan, which makes sense because their lyrics are similarly abstract and literary.

TNP’s full length Beat Pyramid will be out January 28th on Angular with U.S. distribution through Domino. First be sure to check out the Now Pluvial, Navigate,Navigate, Numbers/Colours EPs available now as digital downloads on Itunes. I’m definitely watching out for this band in the new year.

Be sure to check out a performance video for Elvis below. Its one of the more entertaining, simple yet beautiful art pieces I’ve seen in a while. Don’t blink, you might miss the subtlety of the editing.

These New Puritans – Slippery people going closer and and off the edge of the pier. Southend wheels burn and sparks fly…. Hit it! The future burns a curious Oraange!
