FRICTION @ The Mercury Lounge | 12.15.07

FRICTION gets festive for the holidays at The Mercury Lounge with a lineup featuring four of New York City’s hottest acts. The local Brooklyn flavors include a headlining slot by the multi instrumentalist troupe YEASAYER, who will be supported by the reverb/echo heavy duo HIGH PLACES, along with electro gangsters TEAM ROBESPIERRE and synth darlings CHAIRLIFT. Top that off with DJs FINGER ON THE PULSE destroying the decks with dance music all night long and you’ve got yourself hell of a jawn — GET HYPE!

The doors open at 8PM — and advance tickets are still available (and recommended) on Ticketmaster. UPDATE: This show is now SOLD OUT!

12.15.07 FRICTION

YEASAYER

“Mixing intense, intricate vocals that soar and weave amongst each other with instrumentation that somehow touches on world, dark, rhythmic-heavy psych and eighties soft rock at the time may sound like an overwhelming mess; but YEASAYER pull it off with flawless charm.” [Raven Sings The Blues]

[MP3]: Yeasayer  ”2080″

HIGH PLACES

“On another stylistic tip altogether, HIGH PLACES with perhaps the night’s most eye-opening set, full of delirious rhythms and jumprope song vocals, part Animal Collective, part gamelan, part “Iko Iko”, and all fun.” [Pitchfork]

[MP3]: High Places  ”Golden”

TEAM ROBESPIERRE

TEAM ROBESPIERRE utilizes a whole mess of both machine and man-made beats, and you can certainly dance to their thumps. Just don’t confuse this with dance-punk. This is more like punk-dance. You will have a good time at this show.” [Oh My Rockness]

[MP3]: Team Robespierre  ”88th Precinct”

CHAIRLIFT

CHAIRLIFT digs deep for its inspiration. The groups new Daylight Savings EP, while tethered to a solid core of hook-laden, keyboard driven indie-rock, opens its arms wide to encompass stabs of psychedelia and winsomely quirky, oh-so-slight vocals which evoke Kate Bush as much as Regina Spektor. The young trio knows how to skirt the edge of pretension with out falling over, and makes a chirpy, joyously brainy noise in the process.” [The Onion]

[MP3]: Chairlift  ”Evident Utensil”
