FRICTION Recap | 5.12.07
After Saturday’s FRICTION show a friend of mine came up to me and said, “best FRICTION ever.” This coming from someone who has been at pretty much every show from the start and usually doesn’t have too much to say. It made me really happy to hear him say that and I have to agree that Saturday’s show was one of the most unique live experiences I’ve had in quite a while.
FRICTION was more like a loft party than a show at The Mercury Lounge, complete with sing alongs, chants to turn off the AC, a prayer to Connor for lost Netflix DVD’s, a dance tag, and of course lots of music. The dance tag was hilarious, the crowd formed a large circle and one at a time someone would run into the middle pull of a dance move and then tag another person in the crowd to do the same. All of us crackers were hoping for Nghia to get in there and do his patented high kicks, sadly he didn’t.
We’d like to thank Dan Deacon, Ponytail, Meneguar, and Lions and Tigers for being a part of this month’s show – it was an amazing night all around. Also, a big thanks to DJ Chris Alker for keeping the party moving throughout the night.
Pictures from the night are up now on our Flickr site, head over there to check them out. Brooklyn Heathen also has a great recap, pictures, and excellent videos of Dan Deacon’s and Ponytail’s performance. The video below of Dan Deacon’s 11-minute long “Wham City” complete with crowd singalong was taken by Brooklyn Heathen.
Yeah, great show, guys – thanks for putting it together. My take here:
