Brandon Bird | Pop Artist

signifier_signified1.jpg

Brandon Bird is a surrealistic pop artist that often places celebrities in strange situations in his paintings. But don’t call him a comic artist; his range of technics displays his fine art abilities and only the humorist nature is the common theme. The humor goes beyond the paintings with brilliantly titled works such as Wolly Norris and No One Wants to Play Sega with Harrison Ford. This California native was born in 1980 and attended University of California, Santa Cruz and was an artist-in-residence from 2004-2006 at Risley Residential College at Cornell University.

My personal favorites include Arete, a striking portrait of Chuck Norris and Sein-chucks, a ridiculous sketch of Jerry Seinfeld in a Bruce Lee pose. T-shirts (including a great portrait of Jerry Orbac), and prints of his work are available on his website.
