PDX’s Copy (aka Marius Libman) follows up last year’s excellent 8-bit electro Mobius Beard with a new full length album titled Hair Guitar.
Hair Guitar picks up where Libman’s previous effort left off with fuzzed out synths, layered melodies, drawn out bass sequences, and drum machine generated handclaps. As a kid, Libman was heavily influenced by 80’s video game music along with the fusion jazz of Miles Davis and Herbie Hancock. Aphex Twin and Squarepusher also shaped Libman’s musical development and he cited Dr. Dre’s Chronic 2001 as the album that pushed him into “more of a pop sensibility…I became more interested in making good songs first, and showing off my skills second.”
Libman has certainly achieved what he set out to do on his first two albums, really showing off his skills as a talented producer. Hair Guitar is out now on Audio Dregs and comes with a bonus remix CDR (while supplies last). Order it here. Check out “Fist,” the killer opening track from Hair Guitar below.
For those of you in Portland (cough…Ray), Copy DJ’s Holocene on Saturday, March 17th.
