Post SXSW in NYC
The weeks following this year’s SXSW keep getting better and better in NYC. Focusing on the digital/dance side of things, the last week or so of March is STACKED. Two acts that I’m most excited about are Justice and Ellen Allien. According to Pitchfork, Allien is dropping a new track on the Bpitch Camping compilation in early March followed by the CD/DVD Time Out Presents: The Other Side Berlin mix on March 30th. Allien is also set do do some remixes for Thom Yorke’s “The Eraser” and Beck’s “The Sun.” Check out the full article on Pitchfork for more.
On March 18th, Fujiya and Miyagi hit town for a show at the Mercury Lounge in support of one of my favorite albums last year, Transparent Things. I know this isn’t electronic, but I didn’t want to get a nastygram from Nghia, so Explosions In The Sky are at Webster Hall on March 20th. Another favorite of last year was Ellen Allien and Apparat’s Orchestra of Bubbles, BrooklynVegan mentioned today that Allien’s solo U.S. dates include a stop at Studio B on March 24th. Follow that up with the mother of all shows, Justice at Hiro Ballroom on March 29th. LCD Soundsystem plays back to back nights at Bowery Ballroom on March 30th and 31st, and Datarock drops into town on March 31st for a night at Studio B.
Should be one hell of a week or weeks. Watch two fat dudes playing belly ping-pong with a ball of rolled up hamburger in Allien’s video for “Down” below. It will make your day.
