The Jesus and Mary Chain Playing Coachella FOR REAL!

jamc.jpg

File this under wtf!?  I nearly lost my shit yesterday when I saw that flyer.  However, I was EXTREMELY skeptical about The Jesus and Mary Chain reuniting for Coachella this year, even after NME and Pitchfork reported on the news.  But, apparently the Reid brothers are reuniting on April 27th for the first time since the 1998 fiasco at the Los Angeles House of Blues.  I was reading the Some Candy Talking site and Mark Crozer actually called Jim Reid who confirmed that the band would be playing the festival.  Crozer’s words:

“Just spoke to Jim. It’s true. The Mary Chain will be playing Coachella. Both William and Jim have agreed. I’m a little shocked myself!” (no shit, who isn’t?)

This opens a big box of questions for me.  Is it going to be a one show deal?  Can we expect a short tour to follow?  I’m really hoping the band plays one more date at the very least because I really don’t feel like dragging my ass out to the fucking desert in April.  Also, no one knows for sure what the lineup is going to be.  Crozer states in the forum:

“I have no idea what the line-up will be but sad to say that neither Loz nor myself are involved (not sure about Phil.) Shame… that would have been one hell of a gig.” (Jim Reid has been working on new material with Crozer as well as Lush’s Phil King and Ride’s Loz Colbert)

I guess we’ll see in the coming weeks.  I’m really stoked about this, although I really do hope they add some more dates.  The above picture is from the Automatic Tour in The Barrowlands, Glasgow (1989).
