Erol Alkan’s Mix Mag Disco 2006 and Ed Bangers Vol. 1

I’m back!!! The other day I was running around to the all the newstands in the cold and sh*t looking for a copy of UK magazine Mix Mag‘s January 2007 issue. The issue (with that ‘ugly-ish, can’t tell if she’s pretty, over hyped’ Lily Allen on the cover) comes with a ‘free’ copy of Erol Alkan‘s Disco 2006 mix, tabbed as “The Best of the Year mixed by the DJ of the Year”. This London based DJ is by far my favorite remix artist/DJ/dance producer these days.

If you’ve never heard of him, you’ve probably danced to him. This particular mix is sick, Alkan drops some biting gems complete with hi-hats that catch you off guard the only way he knows how to pull it off. The mix is supposedly his two month labor of love. What are you waiting for? Go get it (now!) before they take it off newstands. Well worth the $9.75, it’s the first and last time I’ll blow money on some free magazine compilation CD. Unless of course they put out another Erol Alkan mix.

Vice Records is set to drop some mega-hits digitally on January 16, Ed Rec Vol. 1, a 12 song compilation of music from Paris based electro/dance-punk label Ed Bangers. If you’ve been living under a rock or inside the Lincoln Tunnel in the last year, this compilation is a hype introduction to the Ed Bangers roster. It features tracks from Justice, Uffie, Sebastian, DJ Medhi, Vicarious Bliss, as well as others.

With Vice’s distribution deal Stateside, they’ll also be releasing 7 digital 12″/EPs: Justice “Steamulation”, Krazy Baldhead “Bill’s Break”, Mr. Flash “Champions”, Sebastian “Smoking Kills”, Vicarious Bliss “Theme From Vicarious Bliss”, Sebastian “Ross Ross Ross”, DJ Mehdi “I Am Somebody” and Zongamin “Bongo Song.” Watch out!
