In addition to the “overlooked” albums I mentioned in the last two weeks, here are two more that have been getting some repeated listens.

Wronger Than Anyone Else

The seventeen-track Wronger Than Anyone Else marks the tenth release, yet first full-length, for the Brooklyn duo of Sasha Crnobrnja and Alex Gloor on Codek Records. Wronger is largely a collection of 12″ singles and b-sides all compiled into one ass shaking album. On first listen, the most apparent influence is disco, but Crnobrnja and Gloor also incorporate electro-house, no wave, and other elements into their uniquely styled tracks. One of my favorite tracks off the album is the pulsating “Genital Blue Room.” I opened my New Year’s Eve DJ set up with this track, which got more than a few people shaking their asses and bobbing their heads. Check it out below.

Relay
Still Point Of Turning

Relay are led by producer/musician Jeff Zeigler who toured and recorded with Swirlies during their brief 2003 reformation. The Philadelphia quartet released their debut LP, Still Point Of Turning along with the Type/Void EP last year on Bubblecore. Still Point Of Turning is 37-minutes of pure sonic bliss as Zeigler’s and Mikele Edwards’ vocals take a back seat to the record’s shimmering layers of sound and textures. Stereolab and Swirlies come to mind when listening to the 11-tracks on the album which brim with infectious melodies and harmonies keeping the record poppy and ethereal at the same time. Check out “Driver” below and be sure to catch Relay at the upcoming FRICTION on January 13th.
