Posted: December 20th, 2006 | Author: justin | Filed under: FRICTION, events, music, nyc | 4 Comments »FRICTION rings in the new year with a night of shimmering guitars, ethereal loops, stereo reverb, and banjo feedback featuring New York City’s O’Death, Mahogany, and Daylight’s For The Birds along with Philadelphia’s Relay.
As always, we’ll be hosting an open Sparks! bar from 9:30pm-10:30pm. In addition, David B of Slap You In Public and Pistolwhipped fame will be spinning tracks between sets.
Doors open at 8:00pm and advance tickets are available on Ticketweb. Set times are as follows: 11:30pm O’Death / 10:30pm Mahogany / 9:30pm Daylight’s For The Birds / 8:30pm Relay

“Combining influences as diverse as Sonic Youth and old Civil War gospel, with sweet ukulele-driven melodies and testosterone-soaked post-teen-angst punk energy, their self-released CDs have so far failed to capture either their true sound or their furious punk energy. But live—well, if your idea of a good time is a crowd of folks moshing to the sound of banjo feedback and Savage Republic drumming, then live O’Death is your cup of moonshine. And while I’ve yet to so much as tongue-kiss any of these fine gents, after some of their boozy, high-octane live shows I’ve been sore tempted.” [Village Voice]

“Bossa beats and one chord ethereal guitar loops never sounded so imaginative, Mahogany are one of the most underrated and criminally overlooked bands of the last decade. Some of the most creative, imaginative and breath-taking music you’ll have ever had the fortune of hearing. Don’t let this remarkable band go unnoticed any longer.” [Angryape]
Mahogany ”My Bed Is My Castle”

“What I love about Daylight’s For The Birds is that the dreaminess never seems to fade from the beginning to the end. You feel like you’re just aimlessly, yet with enough purpose, floating about from planet to planet, and simply exploring what has never been explored before.” [AM Music]
Daylight’s For The Birds ”To No One” (via Milk Milk Lemonade)

“Philadelphia 4-piece Relay reflect a sonic sensibility garnered from endless hours of studio tracking, tweaking and sonic experimentation. The band spins out carefully crafted dark pop–taut yet spacey, noisy yet melodic. Humming bass, shuffly drums, glitchy keyboards and dissonant pedal-treated guitar all melt together into an iridescent sheet of sonorous reduction, and you can still tap your foot to it.” [Treblezine]
Relay ”Context” (via Built On A Weak Spot)

that’s a pretty sexy lineup as usual
