I have to admit that if I didn’t read that Kevin Shields contributed to three tracks on this album (“Thank Youâ€, “Sitting In Your Headâ€, and “This & That”) on the My Bloody Valentine message board, I would have never picked up this album. Le Volume Courbe, French for “The Volume Curve†is largely the work three London-based singer/songwriters led by French expatriate Charlotte Marionneau. Shields wasn’t the only My Bloody Valentine member involved with this album, Colm O’Ciosoig was also a contributor along with Mazzy Star’s Hope Sandoval and Dave Roback.
It seems like every autumn I discover an album (or it finds me) giving me the perfect soundtrack for the season. Released in February of this year on Honest Jons (Damon Albarn’s label), it has taken me quite a while to get a hold of what may become my soundtrack for fall this year. With 13-songs, the album is incredibly short, clocking in at just 29 minutes, but filled with powerful songs featuring Marionneau’s haunting vocals over an otherworldly eclectic mixture of sounds. Perfect for those brisk overcast fall days.
