The Meeting Places | Numbered Days

The Meeting Places find a new direction with Numbered Days while staying true to their shoegaze roots.
I don’t know how many times I’ve mentioned how much I like the current LA “sound”, referring to bands like Silversun Pickups, Autolux, Giant Drag, Midnight Movies, Gliss, and The Meeting Places, who are readying the release of their second album, Numbered Days.
I wrote about The Meeting Places and their 2003 debut Find Yourself Along the Way a while back, comparing them to shoegaze/dream pop icons and personal favorites, Slowdive. On Numbered Days The Meeting Places retain flashes of the shimmmering beauty from their previous album while taking a different approach to songwriting. The songs on the new album are more structured and urgent, crafted on an indie pop sensibility with the ethereal melodies and cascades leading into pop hooks and noisy guitar riffs much in the same vein as Giant Drag’s Hearts and Unicorns. The result is thirty-three minutes of pure noise-pop bliss.
Numbered Days is due out on October 3rd , but you can get a jump on it and buy the album now via Words-on-Music. Check out the title track and “Until It’s Gone” below. If there are any LA readers out there, the band is doing a residency at Silverlake Lounge in October before taking off to Taiwan.
