Crackers United presents FRICTION | 8.23.06

FRICTION is back after a brief recess in July with a sweet lineup including Apes and Androids, The Foundry Field Recordings, and Cassettes Won’t Listen. Also, be sure to make it out early to catch Atlanta’s Untied States who are kicking off their East Coast tour on August 18th. As always, there will be free Sparks from 9pm-10pm. Advance tickets available via Ticketweb.

“Think David Bowie meets “Bohemian Rhapsody” meets Godspell meets Tron, and you’re left with Apes and Androids. This young fearsome fivesome peppers their electro-inspired songs with four-part harmonies/chants (that’s where the “Bohemian Rhapsody” comes into play) that surely sounds light-years ahead of 2006. This must be the new shit, because I’ve never heard anything like it before. They are a band designed to dance to. Make no mistake, Apes and Androids are tight.” [OhMyRockness]

Apes and Androids  ”Radio” (mp3)

“Years of collected field recordings and well-crafted melodic sojourns capture the painstaking attention to detail and layers of Prompts/Miscues. Billy Schuh leads The Foundry Field Recordings with a reassuring crack in his voice and boyish charm as the band responds to his lyrical musings with lush slow-core expansive envelopes of shoe-gazing feedback and dance-worthy hooks.” [Insound]

The Foundry Field Recordings  ”Warning Raids Over Kiev”

“Jay Drake drops this genre-hopping EP that moves from dreamy synth-driven downtempo to drum & bass to singer-songwriter-based rock (sometimes all in one song!). Homeboy plays every instrument and has the sonic aesthetic of early Beck. Fans of Postal Service-type fuzzy electronic music will keep this one on repeat.” [URB]

Cassettes Won’t Listen  ”Cutting Balloons”
