Toronto’s Femme Generation brought their “electro-laced-pop rock” to Pianos on Friday night and a few of us were lucky enough to catch the show. New York City was the band’s second stop during their East Coast mini-tour promoting their latest album Brothers and Sisters, Alone We Explode (Permafrost). The quartet put on an amazingly energetic set complete with electro version of Chubby Checker’s ‘Let’s Twist Again’ entitled ‘1!2!3!4!’.
I picked up a copy of Brothers and Sisters, Alone We Explode following the show and listened to it over the long three day weekend. The band’s influences on the album are as wide ranging as their sound. The album is broken up into a Side A titled “We’re In To Win” and a Side B “These Are The Good Times”, the latter being more well crafted and softer edged and where the band really won me over. I can’t help to think of Clinic everytime I hear the melodica work present throughout the album. Listen below to two tracks off of each “side” of the album and order it here. Jeff Central Village was also at the show, check out his site for more.
