F*cking Music

Spring has sprung and I don’t know about you, but I’m having libido pangs. It seems like every Spring the clothes are shed and the beautiful people come out of the woodwork. This is why I want to share my most secret weapon of seduction, no not Spanish fly or roofies, but the quintessential love making album from Miles Davis, Ascenseur Pour L’Echafaud (Lift to the Scaffold).

This make-out masterpiece is an original score for the French noir film of 1958. Miles improvised much of the work leading to tracks that are seductive, moody, and sometimes brooding. The composition starts the foreplay with several takes of the song Nuit Sur Les Champs-Elysees before moving into the moody, Assassinat and finally climaxing with Motel. Several of the songs include multiple takes, but each builds upon the next keeping the album unique.

Find a date, crack open the wine, pop in Ascenseur Pour L’Echafaud, and let the magic begin.

Do you have any f*cking favorites? Don’t say Barry White cause that’s what your parents listened to when you were conceived!

Try “The Cinematic Orchestra Remixes” 1998-2000 on Ninja Tune with a glass of wine and some popsicles. Also a little Marvin Gaye always goes a long way. :P

I am on a big Explosions in the Sky kick….highs and lows…The only bad thing is it reminds me of Neal, which is some seriously bad timing (oh wait, did I say that out loud?)

Personally, I have nothing against Spanish fly or roofies. I think they work just fine.

jimbo, i hope you have the stamina to match up with the “triumphant, but sad” cinematic highs and lows of your typical explosions album.

just about any trip-hop (from DJ krush all the way to portishead) with work quite well in a jiffy.
