Why ACL will suck this year.

With CMJ over and summer about to officially end, things in New York look pretty calm for this upcoming weekend. And with almost half of the CU-crew headed down to Austin to overdose on even more live-music at the increasingly-popular Austin City Limits Music Festival (ACL), I’ve just got to say it (again):

ACL will suck this year.

You see as much as I love my hometown and its amazing Tex-Mex that calls to me in my sleep, the last thing I want to be doing in mid-September is boiling away under upper-90s, humid-ass Texas heatwaves in the middle of some field full of dead grass, shuffling my dehydrated ass from crappy-soundsystem stage to the next even-more-crappy-soundsystem stage, all in the hopes of seeing the very same bands that constantly tour through New York’s music scene, year-round.

You see, festival shows inherently blow. Unless you’re high the entire time. And if you’re high the entire time, you might as well just listen to the very same bands on your iPod. At home. Well-hydrated. And for free.

And there’s not even a Texas home football game this weekend. BUST.

Well, it looks like I’m definately wrong about one thing in Austin this weekend: the dry weather. You see, the projected path of Hurricane Rita will most likely hit Zilker Park at — oh — right about the time Death Cab For Cutie takes the stage. How ironic.

Woodstock ‘94 anyone? Or even Glastonbury ‘05? Oh, and look out for those crazy-ass central Texas tornados that the gale-force hurricane winds are sure to spark up.

Next up? A Hurricane Rita benefit concert.

I can’t wait to see the CU flickr set from this one…

  1. i’m pretty disappointed that you would try to write a prophetized post just so you can try to prove your point of why ACL fest would suck for your friends. Nevermind Austin, the Houston area where my family lives, other Houstonians and Katrina refugees are scrambling to get supplies and a safe place just in case this hurricane hits. A-hole, there could potentially be further damage to the Louisiana area if Rita hits with rain. here’s hoping it’ll miraculously turn around in the next 48 hours.

i’ve already spent the whole day down here getting supplies and plywood just in case the bitch hits.

really pissed, but it makes for a good post for you though. i’ll be sure to say hello to your parents in Austin for you.

Don’t be a hater…why don’t you go back to posting pictures of your girly-friend on Flickr so you can have something to whack off to this weekend while we are sliding down the muddy hills of Zilker with beautiful half-naked Texas girls and Mr. Neal is screaming ‘I Got a Pair!’

take yourself a little less seriously, neal.

i had no idea you got all fussy-pussy when you leave the city, otherwise i would have only posted nice, polite, saccharine-sweet posts WITHOUT ANY IRONIC HYPERBOLE WHATSOVER.

monkey. at least james gets it.

everyone at ACL, remember your flood safety tips, especially considering that Austin is “One of the most flood-prone regions in North America”.

you have absolutely no credibility here. considering you have never actually ATTENDED ACL, how would you know what the soundsystems are like?

    Day 1:

The dead grass is BEAUTIFUL - there is nothing hotter than watching half naked sweaty girls get up after a show and dust the grass off themselves!

The crappy soundstages are ROCKING - you could feel Gov’t Mule in your toes today, bi-otch!

Upper 90’s are hot as hell - tomorrow is high of 85, breezy and 30% chance of rain - if I were Beaker, I would wish I could watch all ‘those bands you HAVEN’T seen in NY’ all day tomorrow!
